What is URBANA15?

Urbana is one of the largest North American Student Missions Conferences, and also one of the longest running, since 1946, that has influenced multiple generations of Christian leaders since that time. Urbana15 is the 24th happening of this missions conference (That’s nearly nearly 300,000 participants that have been touched and changed at URBANA!).

Urbana15 livestreamWe have attended and participated in past Urbana Mission Conferences (which happen only every three years!). But could not be there this year. See our report from 2012 here: https://www.goodmissionaryinsurance.com/news-and-helpful-links/were-you-at-urbana-2012-2/ and our page on Urbana Missions Conference at https://www.gninsurance.com/urbana12/.

On the URBANA15 site you can learn more about Seminars and Tracks, What to Pray, Exhibitors and Schedule and Speakers.

There are also links, sessions, and more info from past Urbana Conferences at https://www.goodmissionaryinsurance.com/missions/urbana-missions-conference-resources-now-online/.

You can also follow their blog at https://urbana.org/blog or follow what’s happening on Twitter (UrbanaMissions) and Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/UrbanaMissions).

Why should you attend Urbana15 via their livestream or app? Check out the above video.

Lastly, if we haven’t already convinced you why should you watch Urbana15 via Livestream, check out https://urbana.org/why-attend.

Have an overseas short-term missions trip planned? – Here are some ways to make a good trip a great trip

Economy-Class

What most short-termers forget – (Forward this to your team or your missions pastor/youth pastor!)

You’ve begged, borrowed and raised money for flights, food, and supplies in order to tell others the good news. To do something to make the world a bit better. To make at least one person’s life a bit better.. To show God you are open to His calling on your life…

Remember these tips for a successful short-term trip overseas:

  1. Use Google – Prepare by learning all you can about your host country, culture, people.
  2. Start some language learning (Hello, Goodbye, My name is…, Can you help me?,…)
  3. Deal with your expectations – Hardest of all is when you are unprepared spiritually. Soulfully. Truthfully. Be honest with yourself in seeing other’s poverty, as well as your own selfishness, unwillingness to suffer.
  4. Communicate with others – Remember the 5 w’s: What, when, why, where, who (+ how) both before leaving, when you are overseas, and reporting to friends and family back home.
  5. Paperwork – Make sure you have all your necessary paperwork in order. Photocopies of passport and proof of international insurance to team leader and a responsible adult back home.
  6. Don’t forget overseas travel/health insurance! It’s easy to neglect but for around a dollar or two a day it pays HUGE if you need it.

Did you know U.S. based health insurance won’t pay if you are hurt overseas? Yet only one in three short-term missionaries get overseas coverage! Be wise. You’ve spent more than $2,000. On this trip, the $30.00-60.00 to protect against mishaps, missed flights, and serious medical risk is a wise choice. Better yet, get the whole team insured as a group and save even more!

We protect missionary groups and church teams going overseas short or long-term. So whether you are driving to Mexico or loving orphans in Iraq, we can help! We are committed Christians that share your passion for Jesus. We’ve served overseas ourselves and have seen too many times what can happen when good-meaning, God-loving people go out unprepared.

Don’t travel without being covered! By both prayer and overseas travel insurance. Call us today for a free quote or more information!

Debriefing – Seven Deadly Debriefing Debacles

This is an article by Shane Bennett published in Missions Catalyst

Jesus always debriefed his followers after He sent them out to evangelize (Luke 9:10, Luke 10:1 & 17-20). So should we. This article considers the opportunity to refocus, assess, correct any misunderstandings, hurts, wrong priorities, as well as fire up short-term missionaries to go back overseas or recruit others for short-term missions! If you are a team leader, church or organization, don’t miss out or mess up your short-term debrief. Debriefing (or degriefing) might be the most important couple of days of your entire short-term missions trip!
