Giving back to the least of these – Partnering with Love to Read in Indonesia
www.goodmissionaryinsurance.com and Good Neighbor Insurance are together partnering with “Love to Read” in Indonesia to help open libraries and encourage literacy throughout that nation. Indonesia is one of the most populous nations in Asia. Yet, for most Indonesians, books can be expensive and only 1% of schools have a library. This discourages young girls and boys from becoming literate and limits their education and their future. It can also lead to political instability and continued impoverishment.
“Love to Read” is a local Indonesian organization that has already independently created/opened over 150 libraries throughout the various islands of Indonesia, and plan to open more. These libraries become centers where children and adults can take health and literacy classes, get help with documents and applications, borrow books, and escape poverty. “Love to Read” also has mobile libraries that they take to villages to make books and education accessible to those who cannot get to larger towns or cities. Good Neighbor Insurance and this site have pledged that in addition to all our other giving and in-kind gifts, 2% of our profits will go to help them open more libraries. Recently, the government of Joko Widodo honored the work of “Love to Read” (In Indonesian, “Cinta Baca”) and has permitted their books to be shipped throughout Indonesia free of charge.
